In today's economy, all successful small businesses are looking for any and every way to lower costs for the business. Many small business owners fail to dedicate enough attention to this because they are spending the majority of their time doing what they do best, which is run their business. If you are a business owner who is like this, it may be wise of you to assign an employee to examine all expenditures at your business. There are many ways in which a business can save money. Here are 6 ways most business owners can save money for their cherished investment. Hire smart, inexperienced people. That is right I said hire inexperienced people. Experience is not the only thing of value someone can bring to your organization. Experience certainly costs more. One way to do this is the next time you put up a job ad, eliminate any mention of how many year's experience someone must have to apply for this job. Replace it with “Recent graduates welcome to apply.” Some businesses have used this approach to success and hired candidates fresh out of college or graduate school. This allows your business to gain a monetary advantage by providing an entry-level salary and can benefit you by having employees who are up-to-date on the latest technology. Make sure your business is classified properly. This is most important for purposes of Workers Compensation Insurance. Many industries have several different classification codes because the industries have several different types of businesses with different levels of risk. The different levels of risk are reflected in the price businesses pay in premium. Landscaping is a great example of an industry with many classification codes. Some companies simply mow lawns, other companies plant and maintain sod, others climb into trees with chainsaws to cut limbs and branches. Each type of business has a different classification code and each level of risk pays a different price in premium. Taking a little time to speak with your insurance agent about what exactly it is that your business does and does not do can save your business significantly in premium paid for workers' comp insurance. Try bartering with other businesses Bartering is one thing successful small businesses are usually great at. Especially bartering with other businesses. Bartering might seem old-school but it can definitely be effective. Catering companies and coffee shops frequently work with companies, especially start-ups. If you have something of value to provide them they may be willing to cater an event of yours for free or at an extremely discounted rate. Actually, the possibilities are endless as long as you proactively establish relationships with other local businesses who can benefit from your services. Switch banks It should be no surprise that banks are looking to squeeze more revenue any way in which they can. Banks after all are a business too and they need to turn a profit. There is one fact many people and business owners fail to realize in relation to financial institutions: they are a business as well and they have to pay turn a profit in order to continue providing you the services they provide. partner. The industry is necessary for success in both your personal and professional life. Switching financial institutions frequently is not a great idea, but shopping around to ensure your bank is competitive with other banks in your area is in the best interest of your small business. If you can cut significant costs by switching to another bank, then it may be just what you need to do to save your company money. Invest in a safety and return to work program. You might be wondering why I am telling you to invest in something as a way to save your business money. Especially investing in something like a safety program. Healthy employees are happy employees and happy employees are productive employees. Investing just a little time in an effective safety program can save your business immensely in lost productivity and insurance premium. A return to work program is an essential part of any safety program. The quicker an injured employee gets back on the job and in the routine of going to work, the more likely they are to return to regular employment. This will prevent your workers compensation insurance premium from increasing from having too many to too severe claims at your business. Embrace telecommuting. Telecommuting isn't possible for all businesses, but you might be surprised how many people can effectively do their jobs from a remote location. If you can find ways to allow employees to telecommute it can be a huge money-saver for your business. It can cut down on wear and tear to your office space as well as your electronics. Meaning you will have to replace these devices less frequently. Many employees appreciate the opportunity to work from home and it may be a benefit you can and to their compensation package instead of a higher salary. Can we please take a moment of silence and send me over some good tech vibes? Believe me I didn't want to be silent last week because I really wanted to share my new finds with you but I couldn't upload any images to my blog. It was a hosting issue. I've been wanting to switch hosts for a long time and finally made the move last week. It is a lot more money per month but I'm hoping that it will leave me the freedom to not worry about these things anymore. I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate tech issues. I know I've mentioned it numerous times before. I just want to talk about furniture, decor and DIYs so I'm hoping that I can finally start 2018 on a new blog foundation. Another little techy update is the little window that pops up when you are on my blog asking you if you want to opt-in to push notifications. Let me explain what they are for those of you who don't know what that means. If you opt-in then you will get a notification on your computer screen every time I post something new. It's for those of you who get too many emails and maybe miss things or maybe you hate emails all together. I thought it was worth giving a try. I certainly don't want to annoy you with this but I really like receiving them as reminders and thought that some of you might too. You can easily opt-out again in your browser preferences. Lets get to the purpose of this post… my latest HomeGoods findsHere goes my latest HomeGoods story. If you are following me on Instagram then you were able to follow along with the entire story already. I am assuming that most of you haven't heard all about it yet though. I've been wanting to replace my grey Ikea wingback chair for a while now in my living room but wanted to wait until our old white kitty Lucy passed away since she uses it as her throne and resting place. She's really pretty much ruined it. She loves to scratch it and has puked on it on occasions as well. It will certainly go out to the trash. Another reason I disliked it is because it divides the two seating areas. I'd love to have a solution that connects the fireplace area and TV area. It looks perfect in this photo, I know. Believe me it's not the case anymore and I showed it on my Instagram stories. That high back of the chair is blocking the view if you sit on the couch and want to talk to someone sitting by the fireplace. and I don't like it.
What I love is the swivel chairs I added to our space last spring. It's so nice to easily rotate to the direction you want to focus on. You can rotate them towards the fireplace or tilt them towards the sofas and the TV in a second. So when I spotted a different pair of swivel chairs at HomeGoods, I was head over heels in love with them. They were on hold for someone else and I mentioned to the lady at the register that if she didn't come to pick up the chairs that I wanted them. And guess what? I got the call a day later and sped to pick them up. They were so different and soft and comfy and we all loved them.
grey velvet swivel chairsWell I liked the view like this but they just felt so wrong in the space. My biggest issue with them was the difference in arm height. I didn't even think about that fact when I bought them. I just couldn't get passed it.
My daughter was so in love with them that she actually shed a few tears when I said that I didn't like them in our living room after all. And this view was off to me too. There are just too many chairs and too much swiveling going on. It really looked wrong to me.
Let me slightly stray from the story. Our Maya is gaining too much weight because she eats everything she can find. Look at those neck rolls, arm rolls and belly. I'm doing portion control now for her and making sure she doesn't eat all of poor Lucy's food who is a skeleton. Anyways lets get back to my living room.
The chairs went back with a heavy heart and I hope someone will love them as much as I do and that they will complete their space. They were such a great price too at $199 each. I found the same chairs online and and they are way more expensive. Click HERE to see. Let me show you what else I found.
large blue Chinese calligraphy brush“Shu Fa” brush I've been wanting to get a collection of these beautiful brushes and jumped on this beautiful big brush for only $39 at HomeGoods. It had several red stickers on it and was originally $80 but I found the same one at Chairish for $120. Click HERE to see. Maya is very unsure about this hairy thing and has bitten it numerous times. I'd love to find some more too. They have some really great vintage Chinese brushes on Etsy. Just check out this shop HERE or this amazing shop HERE.
Large wooden dice storage containerAnother thing I found was this large wooden dice that I put in place of the blue and white boxes I had under the table. I'm not sure yet if I will keep it under the table or in a different spot. I have been craving more wood in our rooms and this little addition is perfect to fill that void. You can also see the beautiful blue stone bead detail in the brush's handle. Isn't it pretty?
I've been silent for so long. I'd love to hear from you what you've been up too. Talk to you soon. Tschüß,
